  • whats the best home security camera system available at the moment (reasonably priced)?

Posted by admin on March 1st, 2010 and filed under Home Security Camera | 3 Comments »

hi i am looking for a programmable home security camera system that will record on to hard drive, and will take between 4/8 cameras it must also contain a large hard drive for storage but 2 cameras will do for now & must be reasonably priced must have all attachments required to plug & play as i dont want to be robbed from add ons . thanks

I took a look at that camera and my concern is it is onlly 240 lines as well it is CMOS not CCD. Yes it is nice and cute and will probbaly work for general area surveillance but will not give you any usable detail.

As for your actual question. The best way to go would be an embeded Linux based DVR. I really don’t know all too much about the retail ones on th market as I tend to stay away from the consumer end garbage. For my customers, I like to use Capture as their software is nice and easy to use. They have several different units available, but I tend to use their 4 channel because it is less expensive to buy 2 – 4’s vs 1 – 8 Channel and the software enables you to access mulitple units on one screen. Of course there are higher end units out there like Pelco and Panasonic and yes the quality in some of these can be better, however most people will not notice the difference and really don’t need it.

If you got anything out of the above rambling, it should be software is key. Well of course recording rate, compression, and image size is important as well. I would stay away from the retail units, and definately the package systems for under 1k. Camera’s will be garbage and the recorder suspect.

I have written an article on the basics of video surveillance, you can find it on my website at http://www.keepsafesystems.ca. Protection101.

    Good Luck

Go to http://www.allelectronics.com. The VC-25 Camera is only $27.85. It’s complete with 60 Ft. of Cable, and Power Supply. It works great ! And, it’s Weather resistant. I’ve been using Mine for nearly 6 Months.
